So far gone: 10 years later.

Where do I start? Well, this is a story all about how my life got HEAD ASS...

The magic of Myspace is undefeated for a number of reasons. I know we all remember getting off the bus or getting picked up from practice and logging into our Myspace accounts to post a status, upload an OVER EDITED picture, and stalking our friends/crushes pages to see who was in their Top 8 friends. What I loved about Myspace, outside of being a graphic designer, was discovering new music. You know how now we're all way to prideful to ask what the name of a song is? God forbid we let people put us on to something new but with Myspace we really didn't have that ego at all. It was like we all discovered music with each other, IMAGINE THAT. So, one day I was sitting on the floor in my dad's room because I wasn't allowed to take the laptop in my room (got to be careful with that HP, Hewlett-Packard is expensive period) and I came across someone's page that had their profile music player set to auto which in hindsight is annoying as fuck but I heard Uptown by Drake. So I listen like...WHO THE FUCK IS THIS BEIGE MAN? I started looking up more Drake songs and that's when I discovered Room for Improvement, Comeback Season and So Far Gone.

I vividly remember calling my best friend (shout out Ruth) and asking her do you know who Drake is? And this bit gon say "oh yeah I tried to tell you about him...he's Jimmy from DeGrassi", FIRST OF ALL YOU'RE A LIAR NO YOU DID NOT. ELECTRIC CHAIR. Lmao nah, but seriously she did tell me a couple weeks prior to go listen to this song called Best I Ever Had by this man and I just never got around to it because I've always been bad at listening to things right when they come out, sue me. At this point I'm fully invested in listening to Drake's entire catalog *at that time*. I started with the first two mixtapes, which highly recommend

and the throwaways/demo tracks for other artist...and then I got to So Far Gone which is why I'm writing to you all... (Don't worry I won't go through all the songs, just my favorites...which is basically 90% of them)

The first track on So Far Gone is Lust for Life. Off rip, this solidified me as a fan of Drake because it was really strange and satisfying to hear him rap over such a subtle beat about him struggling with all this new fame and people he's close to treating him different. To be clear, it was a vulnerability I didn't expect to hear cuz it just wasn't what we were listening to in middle school. We were all trying to turn up, which is fine but this was refreshing.

Favorite line: "Throw your ones up in the air

Throw your ones up in the air for her, oh-oh

Throw your ones up in the air

Throw your ones up" – I was throwed off at the end when he started singing. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS?!

DISCLAIMER/UPDATE

It did not save the longest post I've ever written for Tiya's Take which hurt my soul and made me not want to use this fuck ass website (I didn't for three months) so therefore I'm publishing what's left of this. I'm not finishing this post, the moment is gone but just know it was FIRE.
