So my blockhead best friend called me one day and told me, "you need to listen to Mariah The Scientist. She's cute and she's from Dekalb County," I said alright bet. Now you all should know...I don't immediately listen to music, watch shows/movies, read books when folks recommend them to me. I don't have the time. However, something told me to go ahead and listen to Ms.Mariah and I did. BIHHHHHH I was not disappointed.
Mariah The Scientist released her debut EP, Master, in late August. It was executive produced by Mr.Proud Family himself Tory Lanez after he took her under his wing and invited her on tour. Master boasts ten tracks total with Ms.Mariah dropping off the video for the track Reminders (which gives me A Thin Line Between Love and Hate vibes) below:
Let's get into the music though...Master is as close to flawless as one can get. The album takes you on her journey through toxic relationships, having the courage to vulnerable and her vow to reclaim her power. You have to stan. Her voice is downright hypnotizing. She is no one's Jazmine Sullivan but she doesn't have to be. Her voice is unique, has a ceratin melodic flair and the way she can convey emotion over a track is impressive. I've seen some people compare her to SZA, Jhene Aiko and even The Weeknd but this is not that. She has created her own sound just as they did and I cannot wait to see how she evolves as an artist.
I will say that Master triggered me but in a good way. I appreciate music that makes me feel something and every time I listen to this album I DEFLEE feel something. I've relived past experiences, heartaches and internal conversations I've had with myself. The EP is definitely something that people who have gone through similar experiences will enjoy.

IT'S MY OPINION. These are the tracks that hit me the hardest every gotdamn time. (I don't skip on this album though, let's be clear I'm a fan of the entire ep). There are so many great R&B projects that have dropped in 2019 so if you aren't feeling Master please check out some other projects to come out this year from Ari Lennox, SiR, Summer Walker, Solange, Snoh Aalegra, Jhene Aiko and H.E.R!
Reminders is that girl!
